Every so often, I tell someone what I do, and I’m met with the same expression.
A pause.
A puzzled look.
Then the inevitable question:
“Isn’t that… something to do with children?”
It’s an understandable question because the term Adult Baby is one of the most misunderstood labels in modern society. Unfortunately, misunderstanding often leads people to make assumptions that couldn’t be further from the truth.
After more than twenty years of caring for adults at Thai Adult Baby Nursery in Thailand, I’d like to explain what being an Adult Baby actually means, why some people choose this lifestyle, and why it has absolutely nothing to do with paedophilia.
What Is an Adult Baby?
An Adult Baby is a consenting adult who enjoys temporarily adopting the role of a baby or infant.
For some people, this means wearing nappies, using bottles or pacifiers, playing with toys, sleeping in a crib or following a nursery routine.
For others, it goes much deeper.
They experience what is often called age regression or littlespace, a state of mind where they temporarily let go of adult responsibilities and experience comfort, safety and emotional relief through being cared for.
Every Adult Baby is different.
Some enjoy the clothing.
Some enjoy the routines.
Some simply enjoy being looked after.
There is no single definition that fits everyone.
Why Would Someone Want This?
We all have ways of escaping the pressures of everyday life.
Some people meditate.
Some spend weekends fishing.
Some climb mountains.
Others lose themselves in painting, gardening or music.
Adult Babies find comfort through nurturing.
Many spend their working lives making difficult decisions, carrying responsibility and looking after others. For them, spending time in a caring nursery environment allows them to set those responsibilities aside for a while and simply be cared for.
It isn’t about becoming a child.
It’s about taking a break from adulthood.
The Question People Often Ask
The biggest misconception is that Adult Babies are somehow connected to children in a sexual way.
They are not.
An Adult Baby is exactly what the name says.
An adult.
Every guest at our nursery is over the age of eighteen and is capable of giving informed consent.
There are no children at our nursery.
None.
The role-play, routines and care all take place exclusively between consenting adults.
Understanding Paedophilia
Paedophilia is a psychiatric disorder involving a sexual attraction to prepubescent children.
Children cannot give informed consent.
Because of that, acting on such attractions is profoundly harmful and a serious criminal offence in every society that protects children.
Adult Baby role-play is fundamentally different.
It involves adults making informed decisions about activities they find comforting, meaningful or emotionally restorative.
The distinction is clear.
One involves vulnerable children who cannot consent.
The other involves informed adults who can.
The two should never be confused.
Why Consent Matters
Consent is the foundation of everything we do.
Before any stay at our nursery, we discuss expectations, boundaries and individual preferences.
Nothing happens without agreement.
Guests can stop or change their minds at any point.
That isn’t simply good practice.
It’s essential.
Respect, trust and communication create an environment where people feel safe enough to relax.
Care, Not Exploitation
People sometimes imagine that an Adult Baby nursery exists to fulfil fantasies.
Our experience has been very different.
For many guests, what they value most isn’t the nursery furniture or the baby clothes.
It’s kindness.
Being fed.
Being tucked into bed.
Having someone notice when they’re tired.
Feeling accepted without judgement.
After twenty years, we’ve learned that genuine care can have a profound effect on people who spend much of their lives carrying the weight of responsibility.
Why Public Understanding Matters
The internet has made it easier for niche communities to find one another.
It has also made it easier for misinformation to spread.
When people hear unfamiliar terms, it’s natural to ask questions.
The problem arises when assumptions replace facts.
Adult Babies are not asking society to approve of every aspect of their lifestyle.
They are asking to be understood accurately.
Understanding begins by recognising one simple truth.
Every person deserves to be judged by their actions, not by misconceptions about a label.
A Final Thought
The measure of any community is not how unusual it appears from the outside, but whether it treats people with dignity, respect and care.
At Thai Adult Baby Nursery, we’ve spent more than twenty years providing a safe environment for consenting adults who find comfort in being cared for.
We have clear boundaries.
We have clear values.
And we have never lost sight of the most important principle of all.
Children must always be protected.
Adults should always be free to make informed choices about their own lives, provided those choices harm no one else.
Sometimes, understanding begins with a conversation.
Perhaps this can be one of them.
